Anode Rod

A sacrificial magnesium or aluminum rod inside your water heater tank that corrodes in place of the tank steel, dramatically extending tank life. Should be inspected every 3–5 years and replaced when depleted. In hard-water areas like East Texas, anode rods deplete faster. Replacement: $20–$40 for the part, $75–$150 with professional service.
