BTU/h (British Thermal Units per Hour)

The standard unit for measuring heating and cooling capacity. 12,000 BTU/h = 1 ton of cooling. A correctly sized AC for an 1,800 sq ft East Texas home typically falls in the 30,000–48,000 BTU/h (2.5–4 ton) range — but the actual number depends on insulation, windows, and orientation. Never accept AC sizing based on square footage alone.
