PLUMBING

Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV)

A plumbing device that reduces municipal water pressure to a safe level for your home's plumbing (typically 40–80 PSI). High water pressure (over 80 PSI) stresses pipes, water heaters, and appliances. Signs of missing or failing PRV: water hammer (banging pipes), short water heater life, dripping faucets, premature fixture failure. Replacement cost: $200–$500.
