Spring AC Prep: What to Do Before East Texas Heat Hits

Your March and April AC checklist — before every HVAC tech in the area is booked solid.

Why now?

East Texas AC season effectively starts in April. By the time your system struggles in June, every qualified HVAC tech within 30 miles is on a 2-week wait list. Do this in March — when you can be picky about who you call.

Your Checklist

  • Schedule an AC tune-up (book early — most techs are booked by mid-April)
  • Replace air filters (change every 30–60 days during cooling season)
  • Clear debris from around the outdoor condenser unit
  • Test your thermostat — switch to cooling mode and verify it responds
  • Check and clean the condensate drain line (pour diluted bleach to prevent algae)
  • Inspect duct registers for dust buildup — wipe or vacuum
  • Check your circuit breaker panel for any AC-related tripped breakers
  • Verify your programmable thermostat schedule is set for summer hours
