Evaporator Coil

The indoor component of a central AC system where refrigerant absorbs heat from air blown across it, cooling the air. Located in or above the air handler/furnace. A dirty or iced-over evaporator coil dramatically reduces cooling capacity. Coil cleaning is part of a proper tune-up. Replacement cost if failed: $700–$2,500 depending on size and brand.
