Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve (T&P Valve)

A safety device on water heaters that opens automatically if temperature or pressure exceeds safe limits (210°F / 150 PSI), preventing tank explosion. Should be tested annually and replaced every 5 years or if it shows rust or mineral deposits. A T&P valve dripping water is either doing its job (pressure too high) or failing — both warrant plumber attention.
